SHORT TOUR DESCRIPTION
Marvel at the beautiful landscape of Santiago on this guided trek. Get a taste of local life in the village of Longueira and visit a rum distillery. Hike up Pico de Antónia, the island's highest point, then explore the untouched nature of Monte Tchota.
DETAILED TOUR DESCRIPTION
Begin your tour with pickup at your accommodation, and then head towards the village of Longueira in São Jorge dos Órgãos. There, visit the local rum-making distillery (The Rum production season runs from January 1 st to May 31st), the primary school, and Lemba Lemba Eco Bar.
Move on to Pico de Antónia, enjoy a walk among local houses carved out of steep rocks, and meet local farmers among mangoes, manioc, and papaya plantations. From the 1000-meter (3,280-foot) summit, delight in panoramic views of the São Jorge Valley and the possibility to see the volcano on Fogo Island.
On the way to Monte Tchota Natural Park, look out for endemic plants, animals, and birds threatened with extinction. Altogether, the trek involves 5 hours uphill, with a stop for a small picnic and spectacular views of beautiful landscapes. Your trek finishes in the natural park of Monte Tchota in Rui Vaz. Finally, drive back to Praia and the tour concludes with drop-off at your accommodation.
